mummy vases w/ candles
in looking around my living room decor (pics and posts coming this week...woohoo!), i realized that i didn't have the most kid-friendly stuff. and while the fact that lady m. points to a skull and says, "skull...spooky..." doesn't disturb me or boss, i thought it might not be a bad idea to kid-up the decor.

so...
today i made some mummy vases.

super easy.
and since i had the vases, and the scrap fabric from the spiderweb pillow,  they only cost me .97 (+some tax) in googly eyes.
i wanted to make sure that i could use the vases and fabric again, so I just used double-sided tape to adhere them to the glass.
lady m is into shadows and glowing objects so i put in some tall pillar candles (bought at a yardsale for .25 each). it's pretty cool to see them glowing in the dark. i think she'll get a kick out of it. that is, when she wakes up from her nap.
all in all, a really easy, fun centerpiece for my kitchen table.

things i've learned:
1. if i have the time, i might go in and re-wrap the mummies at certain spots. i was going for the messy look, but in some spots it almost looks too uniform.
2. i was worried that this craft was too simple or corny..and in a way, it is, but, i enjoyed doing it more than some other projects because i was crafting for someone specific in mind. i can already hear her say, "ooh cool..." and that makes me smile.

Those are SO cute! And I love that you used double sided tape so the vases can go on to something else after Halloween. (Can you save the fabric and eyes in case you want to re-mummify them next year?

lesley said...

michelle-
i used doubled sided tape for the fabric and the eyes so I'm assuming that they'd be re-useable. (cheap and green...*le swoon!)
