we're in the process of trying to decide what lady m. is going to be for halloween. we have a couple of ideas floating out there. but...here's the deal. we don't like anything resembling traditional costumes. and maybe it's because in a few years i'm terrified she's going to tell me she wants to be malibu barbie or something else equally...lame (is that terrible that i just said that?).or maybe it's because her father and i are weird (have you seen some of my yardsale finds?).poor girl.
regardless, we feel the pressure. especially after last year's costume.
i present to you,
m.allan poe
i'm sure you'll see that the resemblance is quite striking...
actually, this was quite an easy costume. i got a little boys suit (target) which had the pants, jacket, and white shirt. we had the little shoes. and the cravat (not sure what they called it in edgar's day...). all she needed was a raven. and a mustache. oh and a heart that says, "anabelle lee." the mustache is made out of stiffened black felt-I wanted it to look like his.
i used a little raven from michaels and just did a simple slip stitch to affix him to her blazer. the heart...colored paper.
easy peasy.
(side note:she can still fit all of the pieces...*sigh. yes, i feed my baby. she just is super tiny. and beautiful, if you can't tell. )
so. this year...costumes.
we're considering....
m'abraham lincoln. i've got ideas. oh yes, i've got ideas...
things i've learned:
1. gaah. why didn't i know about how to use a camera for the first year of her life. i mean, i took a ton of pics, but there's only so much picnik can fix. *sigh.
2. it's fine if people judge me for dressing my daughter up as a male poet. it makes us laugh
what about you? what are you dressing your little ones as for halloween this year? favorites from halloweens past?

Brilliant! Cool thing is that this same costume could be adapted to work for an adult, too. Hmmm...I haven't chosen my own costume for this year yet.... :) Thanks for the idea, and for sharing your awesome creations (the costume AND the gorgeous girl!)!
