the walking (ginger) dead

Wednesday, October 26, 2011

the boss and i are huge fans of the walking dead. so to celebrate the second season, we invited our friends over to make some cookies with us. some gingerdead cookies.

initially, i wanted us to make those cute gingerdead cookies-you know the kind i'm talking about-the cute gingerbread cookies that have the outline of the skeleton on them. so. we made those.
see...
i mean, yes. i do love them. in fact, i'll probably make a few more to take over to my neighbors/coworkers/people i see on the street, etc. they're super cute.
boss even made his kid-friendly version of them. he *might believe that if you put m&ms on something, it's now officially kid-friendly. hmmm. he might be on to something. the lady certainly loved these cookies more...

but i still wasn't satisfied. i mean, these were more skeleton and less zombie...and who wants that?
so.
i whipped up some red frosting and we got to work.
i call them zombiebread men. and they just feel right. these guys can't stop. they love to eat brains...
as soon as we got started, we couldn't stop. we created car crash zombies, shotgun through the brains zombies, dexter-esque zombies...
holy freaking craft. can i marry them? i just love them so much.

things i learned:
1. since it was the first shot at making zombiebreads, and i didn't want to waste too much time/money on a potential fail, i decided just to use a box mix and the tube frosting. i mean, they're ok. they taste fine. i'm a from-scratch kinda girl so they're not my favorite-but in a pinch, they worked great!
2.  feel like i'm just scratching the surface of zombie baking...ahh, the possibilities.

I begrudgingly admit that these are pretty great. Even though you wouldn't wait to do them with me. *Sigh*

Oh too funny. My son got us all hooked on "The Walking Dead" series so I think I'll have to make a batch of these to send to him at college.
