have you seen my love?...a valentines day pillow

Tuesday, January 3, 2012

in the past, i was more than meh about valentines day...that is, until almost 2 years ago when this sweet month introduced me to my lady m. and ever since then, i have been super excited for february and valentines...
here she is enjoying her first valentine's day with a super long nap...a mere 4 days old. *sigh. (remember when she slept all the time and now she never sleeps? *exhausted sigh...)
anyway.
this year i was really ready to take down christmas much earlier than i usually do because i was so freaking excited for valentine's day.

that's right, new year's...sorry...you didn't even get a nod-decor wise...i passed you and moved right along to valentines.
and because i'm planning the girl's 2nd birthday party, i'm sure i'll be going strong straight until the big day.
woohoo...
the first valentine's craft to cross my threshold this year is this super cool pillow.
during halloween, i shared my first real sewing attempt-my envelope pillow. i even had to reference the tutorial as i made this one. but i carried on, and finished it. phew.
anyway. i had some pink material on-hand. i had this great pillow on-hand (yardsale find- .25 for two pillows!)...i knew they needed to hook up.
so.
i found this felt placemat at michaels (1.99).
and came up with this

really, the whole project cost me 1.99. i had the material on hand and the pillow insert...all it needed was a little heart (holy cow. i'll stop. promise).
i love this, though. the off-centered heart. the gorgeous red and pink combination. pure love.
it was so easy and cheap that i'm planning on making a few more for the sisters and momma. (hmm...ladycare in exchange for a pillow??? what do you think, ladies?)

things i've learned:
1. sewing. slowly getting better. more confident. but seriously-i should invest in some better supplies.
2. intricate little felt placemat. you look awesome, but you might have taken longer than necessary to tack onto my awesome pillow. so. this project is easy but not quick. i'll forgive you. this time.
3. me. felt. valentines. watch out. i'm in love already...

It's really cute! You've got a good eye- I don't think I would ever think to use a placemat on a pillow.

Thanks for sharing-
