i see your true colors...valentines crayons

Wednesday, February 1, 2012

i know. i know. everyone and their dog has made their own crayons. but. i hadn't. not until today. but i felt the need to for many reasons.

1. see, i have a problem.  i can't throw things away. remember my heart wreath? that's just the beginning...*le sigh.
and
2. i wanted to do some cool and fun favors for lady m's birthday party (deets on their way....).
so. bottom line. i've been hoarding these crayons.
and today was their day for greatness.
ps. these were the easiest thing in the world.

so i found these at the dollar section in target.  sure, they're for ice cubes. but they also work perfectly for making valentine's crayons. though...be warned, the crayon is super thin (which, considering a group of 2 year olds are coming over, it's probably for the best...)

we took the crayons, removed the paper, and separated the colors. you know, to match the party.  and broke them into tinier pieces. (i used my awesome hulk-like strength...and a pair of scissors to complete the task). then you put the pieces into the trays.
the lady saw that i was breaking them up and she decided to help, too.  i almost wanted to see what those crayons would have looked like. she might be an artistic genius.

put the trays on a cookie sheet (rimmed kind) and bake in the oven at 250 for 10-12 minutes. seriously. don't skip the sheet pan. that's a rookie mistake. not that i'd know. but i know a guy who did it once...hmmm......
once they're done (ps, they'll just look runny), let them cool for about 5 minutes on the sheet pan
and then pop them in the freezer for 30 minutes.
carefully remove them from the trays (this was the most challenging part of the whole process)
and there you have it.
super cute.
super easy.
crayon valentines.
or, in our case, crayon favors for a valentine's birthday party.
i mean, these alone should make you want to come to our (i mean, her...her party...gotta remember that) party.
